Daisy Chains
In this ongoing series exploring motherhood and creativity, the daisy chain has several meanings. It represents childhood, beauty and innocence, but here they are used as a form of bondage, they are restrictive and stifling, as motherhood can be. The tightly bound hands, the chain around the neck, the mouth crammed with petals, disabled, muted and suffocated, the creative person is crippled, unable to express themselves fully.
Initially, the series began when the artist was expecting her daughter, the theme focusing on the ambivalent nature of parenthood. The need to create bound by domesticity and responsibility, the creative process is restricted, strangled and caged at times. In this series the artist attempts to explore the juxtaposition between being both mother and artist, of existing in two worlds simultaneously.
