• Lisa Stokes' paintings draw upon memories and emotions from the past and present. Love, loss and childhood nostalgia are all called upon. Combined with the use of contrasting mediums such as oil paint, ink and charcoal, they are weaved together to create richly textured surfaces.

Stokes spent her childhood on a farm in the South Hams, Devon. At college she studied Graphic Design and later moved to London to work as a Medical Artist at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Chelsea.
Returning to Devon in 1990 she met the Plymouth based painter R.O. Lenkiewicz, who she trained with and sat for until his death in 2002.
In 2003 she had her first solo show at Plymouth Arts Centre, then two more successful shows in 2006 and 2008 at John Martin Gallery, London.
She has had her work selected for various exhibitions including the BP Portrait Award: National Portrait Gallery, The Hunting Art Prize: Royal College of Art, the National Open Art competition (NOA), the London Art Fair and Spinneri Art Fair, Leipzig, Germany. The Ruth Borchard Collection recently purchased two works for Ruth Borchard, The Next Generation Collection which includes works by Maggie Hambling, Celia Paul, Nicola Hicks, David Bomberg and John Keane.
Her work is in many private collections in the UK and internationally.
